The Durst Organization and LOOK Dine-In Cinemas Announce Lease at 57 West, New Flagship Movie Theater to Open on West Side for This Summer

LOOK will offer its signature dining, cocktails, and premium movie-going experience, reactivating the cinema as a new magnet for first-run and independent films, premieres and celebrity events.

NEW YORK, NY—The Durst Organization and LOOK Dine-in Cinemas today announced a new lease that will bring a first-run movie theater to Manhattan’s West Side. Opening in time for this summer at 625 West 57th Street in the iconic Bjarke Ingels’-designed VIA 57 WEST, the new 8-screen theater will be LOOK’s first New York City location and serve as a flagship for the company. The specialty cinema will become a magnet for premieres, independent films, festivals and screenings, as well as celebrity appearances and Q&A’s—all featuring LOOK’s premium movie-watching experience.

LOOK Cinemas offers a premium dine-in experience with amenities including laser projection, large screens, state-of-the-art sound and luxury seating. LOOK + Dine mobile technology allows guests to order from chef-inspired menus and craft beverage selections from their devices, or to call a server for a traditional ordering experience. The 57 WEST location will also feature Neighbors Lounge, a bar area for theatergoers to enjoy before or after a show, or for locals to stop in for a cocktail or happy hour.

The nearly 25,000 square-foot lease at 57 WEST, closed with broker Beth Rosen of RIPCO and attorney Richard J. Slavin of A.Y. Strauss this January, is one of the largest retail leases signed in New York City over the past 13 months. The Durst Organization has seen a surge of recent activity among new entertainment and hospitality tenants, including the new Finback brewery and taproom at SVEN in Long Island City and F45 Training Studio at FRANK 57 WEST.

We are thrilled to welcome LOOK’s first New York City location to 57 WEST. This will be a flagship location for LOOK and one of the most remarkable cinema experiences in the city. There’s been enormous anticipation around reactivating this site, and we know that our residents and the surrounding community are excited to see LOOK open its doors, said Jody Durst, President of The Durst Organization.

LOOK is honored to open its flagship New York City location at 57 WEST. Durst is a dream partner with a deep love for the arts and their neighborhood. LOOK believes in the power of cinemas as a force for good, to bring communities together through its showmanship, luxury dine-in experience, an amazing bar, diverse content and support of the creative community. 57 WEST connects us with an exciting community of film and food lovers that we are excited to welcome into our family, said Brian Schultz, CEO of LOOK Cinemas.
